Oh by the way, just looked back and its very possible that the girl shown born Ireland was in fact born Shropshire and James and her birthplace have been transposed. Theyve already made a mistake in where she is staying! The ages seemed to have varied a bit - which isnt unusual but it would be nice if they were constant. Anyway, do double check everything just to make sure. Seems like James dad must be the Patrick born Ireland 1820 wasnt it? Look for the marriage - its likely your nan was named after her mum, so you may find he married a Jane. Good luck.

Unfortunately, assuming he was 18 at least when he married that would be 1910 and there are very few FreeBMD records for that. If you really want to know, then I suggest you go to 1837online and spend a fiver checking marriages in Walsall about that time. However, it looks like he may have left grans home before then. You can use the credits you have over to look for your nans birth too. Good luck. Shouldnt be too hard - not common name. Also, I would have a look at Patrick born 1820 and Susan I think it was from Ireland living in Walsall. Should think they are also your ancestors. Re James, yes I hadnt checked his birthplace. It just that mistakes happen. I think you should have a look at the home page and the tips they give for new researchers. Also you can always ask very nicely for kind people to help you on here. Afraid I have to dash now, late to meet someone.

on the 1881 it says that he was bn in roscommon county ireland doesnt it

Why do you think James was from Ireland? Everyone on the list is in the same household. Actually on the 1901 there was also someone else on the actual census image a John Jennings, shown as Uncle. So could be Catherine's maiden name for you to check.

This looks like them in 1891 - interesting someone staying from Canada. Kough, Catharine 52 Walsall, Staffordshire Wife Walsall Foreign Staffordshire Kough, Catharine 15 Walsall, Staffordshire Daughter Walsall Foreign Staffordshire Kough, Cathe M 23 Can Niece Wolverhampton Staffordshire Kough, James C 54 Salop, Shropshire / Salop Head Wolverhampton Staffordshire Kough, Patience C 15 Ireland Boarder Lewisham London Oh yes, it does happen all the time! You must be new to this! Check out the mistranscription postings - we have had some hilarious ones. And the ages change too. But you should check the image as often its just a mistranscription. Look at the girl staying with them, Patience. It has place of birth Ireland then says she is staying in Lewisham, but she was actually with them in Walsall.
