If so, please read on - been struggling with this side of family but keep on hitting brick walls! I have them on the 1891 census but trail get confusing and goes cold! This is the info I have. 1891 - Living in the parish of St Pancras WILLIAM KING 37 ELIZABETH KING 28 IRENE E KING 11mnths I know the couple went on to have Stanley (1892) and Ida (1894). William then died and Elizabeth went on to marry Edmund Young and had the first of 4 children in 1896. They lived in Hackney. On the 1901 census, Elizabeth had changed her name to Esther, which is making her even hard to trace! William was born in the USA but census doesnt give which state, again making it very difficult. He worked as a hernia specialist on Harley St and was one of a very small number of black doctors at this time, can't imagine there would have been many who married white women either. Is there any way to track this info??? Please Please help - thank you, Juliana x

It's unclear what you are looking for. Are you trying to find them before 1891 or after 1901? If you order the marriage certificate you will find his father's name and occupation. Might help you to find him in the US. Crista

Thank you for all your help - you really have been a star - not sure when he came to England and don't really know where to start when looking for ships etc as i dont know where he would have embarked or when. A wee bit stuck, if he's not on the 1881 census - imagine he must have come over between then and 1890 when his daugher Irene was born! Dont know where to even start!!! Juliana x

Hi Juliane The only thing I can suggest at the moment is to get Irene's birth certificate. She is listed on free bmd as Irene Esther born Sept quarter 1890 at Pancras 1b 58. This will give you her mothers maiden name and you can use free bmd to see when her parents got married. I would suspect about 1888 or 1889. Getting the marriage certificate would give an address and maybe you could get a bit more info that could help you. You would at least find out William Kings father's name and occupation which may help in the 1880 USA census. I have also checked the 1881 UK census and can only find the ones already given to you so would imagine he was not in UK in 1881. If you have anymore info, post it and we may be able to help a little more. Best wishes and good luck Karen
