Hi Lucia The one from Berkhamstead is submitted by a church member whereas the one from Offley is taken from the parish records. The second one will be correct. Sam

In answer to your question about the Hertfordshire County Archives (called HALS) the answer is YES! I found a marriage on the IGI. First checked at the bottom of the web page to make sure it was an 'extracted from local records' one (not 'submitted'). Contacted HALS and for a small fee they did me a photocopy of the entry in the Parish record. In fact they did two because they wern't satisfied with the quality of the first one! Anne

Have a look at the submitter details, Lucia. Only one (if either) should be from church records. B

Thanks Everyone, I was looking for the marriage of Edward Jarvis to Ann Ebbs. They were two results, one in Berkhampstead town and one in Offley. Both marriages took place on 8th November 1810. Do you think if I was able to contact a Hertfordshire Records Office, they would be able to help? Thanks, Lucia :-)

Hi, Also people assume from reading the Banns book that the marriage took place in the same church. The Banns have to be read in both parishes but the marriage can only happen in one. Gwynne

Date, Lucia? Sometimes details are recorded in more than one church. One ancestor has details in THREE registers. Sometimes IGI details are wrong. Due to a little problem they have with dates, one couple appear to marry on their first anniversary AND the second church is wrongly named. Sometimes an individual has submitted the details and guessed. B

Hi, No it isn't - the IGI can be unreliable. This is why it's important to check everything you find on the IGI against original records. Gwynne

Hi, I have found my ancestor's marriage twice on the IGI. There is a marriage in Berkhampstead and another in Offley, both on the same day. Is this possible? Lucia :-)
