I agree, in this day and age it should be possible to distinguish. My partner and I aren't married, yet we have 2 children. Every time I put information about the children into the software (not on this site), I get this little reminder that their birth/christening date is BEFORE the date of the parents marriage. I KNOW!!!! Lou |

I'm afraid I can't list my other half as anything but partner, since I'm in a same-sex relationship and not legally allowed to marry! This doesn't make us any less permanent a fixture. Jack |

I agree there...........to me, partner stems from being at school, requiring to choose a partner for a game or dancing......nothing permanent...... |

I've only recently got FTM software so not sure of all its finer points at the moment - but I think it's got a choice on there of what you want the partner called, ie partner, spouse, husband, wife, etc. It's a nice idea to have the choice if possible. Mandy :) |

I don't see how that would work as everyone on here is entered by their birth names. |

Maybe this sounds silly but I do think GR should have a facility on the family tree to note husbands or wives, not just as partner. I mean no disrespect to anyone or their partner but if someone is legally married surely that should be their title, or would this be considered pedantic. Grace |
