Yes, I'd forgotten about Mrs Robb/Robot! With that level of non-sophistication there'll be letters to "Mrs de Ceased" before long! Christine

My Grandad got one saying that they had info on his name going back 200 years. They'd have had a job as his family didn't adopt that name til 1891 and rumour has it they were origianlly Russian! Jeanette x

Hi I got one in the post a few months ago, they must be using the electoral role for info. It was in my married name, which I still use, just never changed it, he left in 1987 so why would I be searching his line? Amanda

Paul

Paul Report 18 Jan 2005 19:47

I received one of those some time ago, with a supposed "appetiser" of my name. It went straight to the authorities, considering he/they had "researched" my name and come up with ancestors, of the same name, from the beginning of the 1900's. Rather strange considering I only took the name (a combination) when my mother remarried in 1965. But I will concur with Christine's comments, and would say that if you get one, pass it to the authorities. Paul I will be posting, or adding to threads, on other sites I use.

Just to say that there was a very interesting warning about this company (based in Belgium) and its marketing methods for genealogical junk. The guy has just been convicted in Belgium, fined and imprisoned. Our OFT would be pleased to hear if any more of his scam material gets mailed over here. ..... If you want to see the programme: repeat is 01:55 on Thursday, I think. (You'll need to be a very late or very early bird - or use your video to record it.) Christine
