To date I have 2 certs for my ggrandfather that are wrong (one from June 1863 and one from Dec 1863) and have had 2 more reference checked (early 1864) and the father doesn't match. Have now found him on IGI, birth date 6th Feb 1863, extract from parish records, not entered by a member of the LDS so assume it's fairly accurate. Tilda has kindly looked on 1837 for me and for March qtr 1863 there are 2 Samuel Hill's born Ashton both with exactly the same reference number. Could this be the same person entered twice or by coincidence were 2 Samuel Hill's on the same page? The local registry office have looked for me and they insist there's only one Samuel Hill that quarter and the father isn't called Benjamin and the mother isn't called Elizabeth! Lou

I'd have thought the GRO would be more likely to make a mistake, as they can't index births that the local RO don't send them. Perhaps the baby wasn't registered, or was Christened in a church outside the district in wich he was registered?

I thought that but all the other children were registered so can't see why he wouldn't be. He gives his birthplace as Ashton too. I think I'll try and get hold of the parish register. I'm more interested in his mother's maiden name than anything else! Lou
