Ive just subscribed to the Family Tree mag because I checked out their website and they offer an awful lot more info on that awell as the magazine. There are some really interesting articles - a list of names that were missing from the 1881 census A book of photos of habitual alcoholics in Victorian England. Apparently police photographed them and handed them out to publicans who could get fined if they served them - I only just started looking at the photos and names, shall have to have a trawl for any of my lot! So decision made. http://www(.)family-tree(.)co(.)uk/ |

Actually, thanks for reminding me, I shall go back and have a look just in case! You have to click on the resources link to the left hand side then alcoholic ancestors. Just had a look. Arent there a high percentage of women! If you click on the individual pages it brings the picture up and a description of them. Miserable looking bunch they are too! None of my names there though. |

I'm amazed - I was under the impression that until they started heavily taxing spirits that everyone drowned their sorrows/sent the baby to sleep with gin! nell |
