Different Spellings Driving Me Mad!!!!

I think we've all got differing spelling of names back in the 1800s. This is because most people were illiterate, so they would say their name, but not know how to spell it. It would then be up to the registrar or vicar to spell it as they thought it should be. Makes life very difficult for us though! Carole

How many spellings can there be for Govier. Goveyour, Goveyeur, Goveyear (them you take out the 'e' then replace that with an 'a', then with an 'i'). Govyer, Goveir, Govegone. Anyone else had probelms like this and can anyone else offer other different spellings to Govier. Fern.
