I can't find the thread that covered this topic, someone had a Lady Doctor in 1850s? Just looked in the concise Oxford Dictionary and it gives as definition 4: (slang) Doctor - a cook aboard a boat. Wasnt the Doctor Lady's husband something to do with boats? Hope this isnt complete rubbish but as I said, cant find the original thread! Marjorie

It was me, Marjorie, you might know! That's interesting...hubbie was a Joiner but its definitely something worth looking into. I'm sure that one of the family members was a Mariner. Thank you xx
