Very many thanks for that. As I say I think the Harriet could be set aside for the moment. I have the boys birth ref now may be bite the bullet another £7 time! I think it must be Ellen who is the wife as the daughter, shown as Minnie on the 1901 was actually named Ellen too. No sign of a mini Harriet, althought thats no conclusive evidence. Very grateful to everyone.

Would tie in beautifully, Lou but as I said I now remember this two. The mother is shown born Clerkenwell which exited me when I first saw them as my boy is shown as born Clerkenwell. However, on the census for Harriet he isnt born there and the father is a year younger than expected and also shown born Berks instead of Herefordshire. Back to the drawing board on this I think. Shame, so many coincidences with it. Unless dad was lying because he should have been in barracks that night?

Hi, thanks for the interest guys. Someone on the record board has set me wondering. They have found a Harriet Jenkins in 1891 with a husband Tom, a soldier and son Tom. It does suggest that maybe Ellen is the second wife, which would tie in with a marriage in 1901. (UPDATE - no, I remember this couple now and there are too many inconsistencies for them to be my couple, wrong places of birth for son and dad and wrong age for dad). 1901 census Thomas Jenkins 39 Ross, Herefordshire, England Head railway porter Ellen Jenkins 39 Longcroff, Berkshire, England Wife Thomas Jenkins 11 Clerkenwell, London, England Son Albert Jenkins 7 Westminster, London, England Son Minnie Jenkins 6 Westminster, London, England Daughter Annie Jenkins 3 Westminster, London, England Daughter 140 stanhope bdgs red cross street Southwark St Saviour Although the last 3 kids are shown as born Westminster they were actually registered in Southwark. I wonder if they had any married quarters or something when he was in Westminster barracks?

Can anyone find Thomas Jenkins born c1890 Clerkenwell in the 1891 please. I have him living with family in 1901 aged 11. Father, Thomas Jenkins (what else?) was a soldier born Herefordshire and in Westminster barracks in the 1891 census. In the 1901 he is with the family and working as a railway porter. Mother I only know first name (from the 1901) as Ellen born 1862 ish in Berkshire. This is driving me mad!
