It is difficult with daughters but my approach is a follows:- Start with the girls name and birth date Look for a marriage for her on Free BMD , narowwing it down as close as you can to the area where she lived, and if a common name, a date 20 years plus after her birth date. Make a note of all possible husbands you find. Next, got to the next census record after her marriage, and search for the daughter with each husbands name. If you are using ancestry, you can enter the girls age (as you already have this, but remember to try one year either side) or the possible husband's name, and then check the results to see if you can find your daughter. Family search for the 1881 census lets you put in the daughter with her married name and the potential husbands first name so is an even better way, if 1881 is the year you are looking at. Success rate can vary but I have found 50% this way. Peter

It really depends on when you are talking about. If you have a girl's name and place of birth[always assuming it is not just London!] it can be possible to find her. Especially if the name is a little unusual.

Hi Marilyn Have you tried Free BMD? I suppose it depends on which dates you're searching for. Any ideas? Patricia
