I am registered on this site. I have just checked and cannot find James Gover at all,or any number 84. Sorry--perhaps he was not in the Met but stayed in Berks? Have you got him in the census of 1871/1881?

Hi Nell, I don't have a clue what the number '84' applies to then! James Gover joined the Berkshire Police in 1875, but was in the Met. Police before then but don't know when. I think that the Govers that you found for me are later on unfortunately, but thank you for your help! Nicola

Is anyone registered on the Police Orders website that wouldn't mind looking up James W Gover, born 1850 Berkshire for me please? I've written to the Berkshire Records office who informed me that he was previously in the Metropolitan Police, and his number was 84, but I don't know what this number is (it just says 'no. 84' on the sheet) and wether it applies to his time in the Met. Police as well or not. Thanks in advance, Nicola
