Think Valley in Yorkshire had a list of master mariners and was offering look ups on the Records Office Board. Jeanette x

I've just looked at some vessels at Boston on the 1861 census. One has George Marriot, Master and Ann Marriot, Master's wife - no one else! Don't imagine that being called a Master turned him into Captain Bligh or Admiral Nelson.

Im sure there was a thread on list before. Try a search. Yes a master mariner was pretty hot stuff so you should be able to trace his papers and ships. Im sure someone will be able to guide you on that.

is that another term for sea captin? If so - would I be able to find any records of his ships?
