I HAVE JUST FOUND MY GGRANDFATHERS NAME ON A MERCHANT NAVY LIST I ONLY KNEW HIS NAME WAS CARLO BESSELO BUT ON THE LIST IT SAYS CARLO BE(A)SSELO DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THE A IS IN BRACKETS. THANKS LYNNE

Lynne - 'a' means 'to' in italian but does'nt look like it means anything there. Had a look at Bessalo through askjeeves and it seems to be a common italian name. Good luck! Cathy ~~
