I should have said - click on the 1889 link (which is +30 years) to see the reference to Brindley St. etc. Regards, Mary

John Snows's map of 1859 shows the Brindley Street cluster of streets right next to the new Paddington Station which were knocked down a few years later for your Clarendon Street. His sociological survey has this area down as 'Lowest Class, Vicious, Semi-Criminal'! Zoom in on Square A5 of the following link - remove brackets. www.ph.ucla.(edu)/epi/snow/(1859map)/map1859.html. Regards Mary

Thanks for all your ideas - most welcome. Just got excited as I found Clarendon Place and mews ( sort of opposite Hyde Park )......but not Street. Brenda I tried that with 1871 census but no luck - might go and check the other census' though. I will find it........even if it kills me..........LOL Esta

If you have the image on the census, go back to the first page that gives the description of the district. That should at least mention the roads that run off it. B

I played Monopoly for probably 10 years before I found out it was named after real streets! I still get excited about hearing about Marlybone Station etc !!! It's the simple things that keep me amused !! LOL PS.I have an Aussie version of the game now.

Thanks for the ideas - will try them. I'm getting annoyed now as I'd really like to find it. The map I have is Paddington 1872, It must have been a fairly long road the numbers I want are 128 /130 /132. on the 1871 census it takes up 20 pages !! ANy more ideas welcome - even obvious ones.!! Esta :)

There is a street in Paddington named Clarendon Gardens. It is surrounded by Randolph Ave, cres & MS. It runs parallel to Clifton Gardens.
