what i'm comparing to on the census is samuel Johnson - dad Mary A Tyner 24 (should be 25 & Tyrer) & ann Tyner 2 (again tyrer) So i'm 99.9% sure - however hubby's gone missing and i can't find him :(

That certainly seems pretty definite. Only the most unfortunate of coincidences would mean your copy of the marriage cert had the wrong transcription; and if you have the original, then there's really no chance. Christine

it's a marraige certifacte and definatly says ropemaker while the 1871 census definatly is marble mason

That 1868 record... Are you looking at the source image? Is there any chance that "ropemaker" is actually "stonemason"? (Knowing the amazing ability of script to look like something else altogether!) Christine

Ropemaker was a relatively unskilled job so it seems unlikely that just 3 years later your rellie would be in such a skilled job as a marble mason. Not impossible, but seems unlikely to be the same person. Regards Mary

in 1868 have someone as a ropemaker - but on the 1871 census nearest match is mable mason---would this be possible
