Thanks Zoe. I acted on your advice and bought the covers from Smiths today. Does everyone know that Partners have a 2 for price of 1 offer on the extra-wide cardboard dividers that go with the plastic holders i.e. so that you can see the name tags on the rt hand side. The 10 in a pack (small tags) are better value than the 5 in a pack. |

If a person does not fill in their electoral form, the information added is copied over from the last time that one was filled in at that address. As regards military, you will find that the lists are already compiled of all their personnel and forwarded to the relevant authority. |

My oldest original ceertificate is 125 years old. Is held together by a plaster! & has just been passed on from house to house in an old folder! Penny |

We were living on an army base for the last census out in Northern Ireland and to my knowledge we didn't fill a form in on census night. Let them work THAT one out! Lou |

Janet well - I've made it as hard as I can for them. I moved to Scotland in time for the last census so I've made sure they'll never find me. My brother and his partner refused to be enrolled on the electoral register ever. My nieces and my cousins two daughters have the same forenames and were born within a year of each other. I'm thinking of as many difficulties as i can make for them Zoe |

Biran I think it's more an issue for people who think they are protecting their documents by putting them into file pockets which will eventually cause deterioration. Personally, I hope that if in 100 years time a descendant is tracing the tree, all the work I've done now will be in perfect order for them to be able to use it rather than falling to pieces Zoe |

I have an original church marriage certificate from 1892 which has just been kept in a file. It has not deteriorated at all, so is there much need to worry about storage, unless you intend to be around in 100+ years to check!. |

Can't find the thread from yesterday but just thought I'd let you know that I popped into Smith to get some index cards and they have the acid free file pockets in packets of 50 at half price - 99p. They also have identical ones in packets of 20 for 1.49 so make sure you pick up the right ones |
