Thanks SOOO much for this thread I couldn't find a rellie in 1901 and we knew he sevred as we had picture of him with medals on. But we couldn't make out the medals to decide when/where he served, as we knew he also served in 1stWW. As i couldn't find him in 1901 we presumed he was fighting but didn't know how toprove it. Now i can ;-))))))) Next question .... where would i find his records????? Kew????

Hi, my hubbys Great Grandfather was a Thomas Jenkins (yes, I know!) from Holmer (or Ross) Herefordshire in 1881 he was a private, aged 19, in the 36th Herefordshire Foot regiment at Norton Barracks Pershore, Worcs. In 1891 he was a corporal aged 29 at Wellington Barracks, Westminster. I have asked a researcher about finding his records but have been told it is unlikely they exist as 80% of that date were destroyed. In 1901 this chap is living in London as a Railway Porter. ANY SUGGESTIONS guys? I would love to give hubby something interesting as he puts up with so much of me doing my own family!

Thanks folks - isn't this great, you post any kind of question on this board and before long you get an answer. I was told by my grandmother that her father served in the Boer War . . . . well if he did he must have come home for the odd weekend leave because there were children born during the time the war took place!! Thanks once again.

Hi Brian, I am not aware of a complete list of Boar War casualties but there are loads of web sites with bits of information. You could try this one to start with (remove *): http://archiver.rootsweb.*com/th/index/BOER-WAR/2002-02 and then do a Google search for others. It may help if you know the regiment or battalion as lots of them have their own sites or try looking to see if your ancestor got a medal or honour. Good luck. Louise

Hi Brian I can't remember the exact website address, but if you type Kevin Asplin Military History in your search engine, you should get to his website. This lists soldiers who served in Boer War (not just Officers). I found my ancestor on there and was able to find out which regiment he was in. That enabled me to get his military record. So, well worth a look! Good luck! Natalie

Does anyone know if there is a web-site that lists men who served in the Boer War (1899 - 1902)?
