You might find old photographs or postcards of places of interest on ebay, though obviously not pics of family members. Last week, I managed to buy a postcard from my home village dated 1910 which turned out to have been sent by my grandmother as a girl and pictured her house! (see message entitled "Should I believe in Fate?" on this board last week). Jack

There are lots of local history books constructed around old photos. Tempus is one publisher who does this, but there will be plenty of others. The source is often the local studies library. I went to a brill talk last week, where they suggested using the Familia website to get details of the local studies library for any area. This would include opening hours and the sort of material they hold. Good luck Brenda

thanks for tips-if i find the local newspaper (how do i do that?) do i have to read each paper as i don't have much idea of dates or what they did for a living. they lived in and around maldon, purfleet,chelmsford essex

how about the newspaper from the area where they lived? We got a piccie of my grandad from the newspaper from when he retired (he worked for the local council) cheers Helen

is it possible to find photos of ancestors other than the obvious of getting them from relatives, if so, where? how?
