Can anyone help me read an occupation on a census please? It is 1871 census of Wiltshire. RG10 1889. His name is Frederick Fry, living with his parents in Milbourne, Malmesbury. It looks to me like...OF NO OCCUPATION LEAVING PLANET...MALMESBURY. It may be true actually, because I can't find him in 1881, 1891 or 1901. Thanks in advance. Sandra

Nice one! I think that it actually says "of no occupation having heart disease". The last word is all squashed up as it runs into the next column! Maybe that's why he's not around in later censuses, poor blighter? There again, I think that some of mine were in the same spaceship too LOL...

Thanks Richard and Sheila, After you two saying that, it does look like 'having' instead of 'leaving'. The way is written, the G & L together looked to me like a P & L, hence 'planet'. I didn't realise they could diagnose heart problems back then. I'll search the BMD now, to find out when he died. Thanks again Sandra

Sandra Glad you've sorted it but I was getting excited that we might finally have proof that there WAS a spaceship! Lou x

Hi Annabelle I use Ancestry, I lucky, so far all the counties I need are on there. It has 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 as well as a lot of other database's. Sandra
