Yes, my Mum was one of the lucky ones. She had my eldest sister in 1949 . Thankfully her Mum and Grandmother helped bring up the baby. Ive also discovered that my Grandfather was illigitimate in 1895 and his Mother was also fortunate. She had the help of her Mother. It makes you wonder how many other children there are in the family that we don't know about and maybe never will. Sheila

I remember some months ago a Kilroy programme where they were talking about mothers giving their babies up, some of the younger women were saying that nothing would have made them give their child up, I felt so sorry for the mums in the show who had had to. So many people now do not understand just how difficult it would have been then without the support of your family, which was pretty unlikely. In my friends case it was infact her grandmother (the babies great grand mother) who persuaded the family to let her keep her child. In the end no child could have been more loved.

Yes, awful, probably because it was so awful it did oersuade her parents that it wasn't for the best. She was one of the lucky ones. I can't imagine how it must be to literally have your baby wrenched form you, it's just so cruel. I always thought these mothers had very little choice, after watching that, I am now convinced that a lot of them had absolutely NO choice, they were literally forced into a corner.

Only a few years ago, my mother's church heard of a girl who had been thrown out of her home by her mother because she was pregnant. I think the council housed her, but the church rallied round and provided a buggy, baby clothes & equipment etc. nell

It is on next sunday (16th) at 23.15. I think it is a pity that it is not on earlier. A lot of younger people do not realise just how difficut it was if you got pregant to keep the baby in those days. My best friend had a baby in the late 60's, my mother thought it was disgusting that her mother even walked next to her when they went shopping. I was told that if I "went wrong" she would not be prepared to be seen with me, and I would certainly not be able to keep the baby. Fortunatley my friends parents did let her keep the baby, but only after it had been fostered for six weeks was she able to persuade them. How awful it must have been.

I know - found it really moving, felt so sorry for some of the girls, who had no choice, in some ways it seems like some of them actually had their children stolen!

Wasnt it sad?those poor women having to give their babies away,my mum was single when had me in the 60s and was one of the lucky ones who had a really supportive family and kept me,cant believe they told that lady unless she gave her baby up they would lock her up,I had tears in my eyes throughout.
