Hi, My grandad was in the Royal Naval Reserve in WWII. I've been told it was rather sneered upon and called the 'wavy navy'! My grandad was supposed to have been injured sometime after D-Day (June '44) when his ship was "blown up" whether by running into a mine or by being attacked I don't know. I believe he was bought ashore somewhere off the coast of Scotland then bought back via Sheffield to a hospital near home. Does anyone have any ideas where I might be able to find info about ships which were damaged etc in WWII? I'd love to know what exactly happened. Thanks for any help Sioux

Do you have any idea what the name of the ship was. As it would help in your seach. RNVRs were not only posted on to war ships, they could also find them selfes on merchants, tugs, auxilarys and nerly any other kind of ship. Your best starting site would be the MOD (naval) or you can try this site www.naval-history(.)net remove ()

Hi Sioux, I have been told they were called the Wavy Navy because the stripes of rank were actually wavy, whereas the regular Navy had straight stripes. cheers Laurie
