Hi I have just recieved a copy of my grandmothers birth certificate, Her mother registered her & it gives her married name then it says "late" and another surname then "formally" and another surname? So am I right in presuming she was married before in the "late" name & that her maiden name was the " formally" one? Regards Neil |

I have a similar one. You are right. The late name is her first married name, and the formally is her maiden name. I phoned the GRO just to be absolutely sure. Kath. x |
