Thanks a lot Lou, that is very kind of you to offer, I did go up to Manchester before Christmas to stay with mu Uncle and try and search somewhere but found it all a bit daunting and chickened out! Thanks again, Louisex

Louise You can't actually search the certificates, you can only see the info once you've bought it. However, baptism records might be an idea cos that would give you his parents names which would narrow down a time frame for a birth. I just happen to be going to Manchester Records Office next week so will have a look for you although I can't promise I'll find anything! Lou

Thanks Lou, that looks right! and I have also just found that same family living around the corner from the married William Edwards in 1901, the next thing is to order a birth certificate I suppose, but there are about 50 people with his name born that year in Manchester. Would the best thing be to go and search certificates myself, and where would I do that? Sorry, so many questions, thanks for your help. Louisex

Hi Lou, He was 22 when he got married and his father was a driver. I have tried to search back but I just haven't got much to be sure about, I realise its probably just a case looking for ages but there must be something I can do. I am desperate to find something out for my dad. Louisex

How old was he when he got married and what year was it? What was his father's occupation? The 1881 census is free to view at familysearch or on ancestry so you might be able to narrow it down a little with the fathers occupation Lou

I am trying to trace my Great grandfather. His name was William Edwards, I have his marriage certificate but because of the common name I cannot narrow him down before 1901 where I have found him living in Manchester. As I don't know anything about his siblings and his fathers name was also common, Thomas, could anybody tell me what possible information I could find to help. Hope this isn't a silly question, I would be grateful for any help. Thanks, Louise.
