Hocking family - 1851 census????? Hiya, can anyone please help me?? I have found the following family on the 1841 census for St Buryan John Hocking (1811) + Jane Hocking (1805) = Catherine (1833), John, Jane, Grace + Thomas. However, I can't find them again on the 1851/1861 census, yet John and Jane crop up again on the 1871 census with a new daughter Mary Hocking!!!! They lived at Boscan Mill. Please can anyone find the family during this period, my eyes have gone googly!!! Thank you, Juliana xx

Hi Julianna, Try this website it contains parish details for the villiage of Calstock, Cornwall and I'm sure when I was searching through the records I came across the surname Hocking. Not sure whether it's your people but worth a look as it is an excellant site if your family are on it. Best of luck, Fern. http(:)//www(.)calstock(.)info/ P.S. Remove the brackets.

I had a look on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.*com/~kayhin/cocp.html (remove *) which has the pre-FreeCEN copies of the census transcripts for Cornwall. and found this lot in 1851: Transcript of Piece HO107/1919 (St. Buryan) Folio 410 Page 19 35,Boscan Mill,Hugh Trenoweth,Head,M,80,,Ag Lab,St Buryan Cornwall,, ,,Mary Trenoweth,Wife,M,,69,,St Buryan Cornwall,, ,,William Warren,Visitr,,8,,Scholar,Stithians Cornwall,, But there are some HOCKINGs in the three sections for St Buryan, including an 11-year-old Thomas, who's a servant in another household. The 1861 transcripts RG9/1599 aren't available yet, nor 1871 RG10/2346. Christine

Hi Julianna There are various spellings of "Hocking" - Hocken, Hockin. I have in my family tree the surname 'Hocken' and in the visitations of Cornwall (page 32) surname appears as 'Hockin'. John
