My Grandfather may have been born in Germany or Austria in 1887 how can I trace his date and place of birth? He married my grandmother in West Ham in 1918, at that time he was in the Merchant Navy, those records have been destoyed. He died in 1966 and his Death Certificate does not show these details either. He was buried at Bow Cemetary, would the London Metropolitan Archives have his date of birth? Can any one suggest where else I look? His name is Alexander Arnold, which was also his fathers name and his son's name. Thanks in anticipation Lyn |

lyn, Do you know if he was natralized? If he was, the records will be held at the PRO at Kew in London. That record will have d.o.b, place of birth, parents name and nationality. Pat |

I also have ancestors who came from Austria to London. About 1914 changed their name from KOLBE to COLBY. Can I find out more through the net or do I have to visit Kew,and what do I look for. |
