Thanks everyone, I have opened Genuki and found a little info. Trouble is most of the stuff is in the hands of FHSs or Record Offices and they want paying for info.

And yes, I know, it was written in the margin! Thank you for finding it for me, Grampa! B

Grampa, get your ancestors to move to Puddletown. I can tell you where everyone was living in 1724, which daughters were in service, who had been deserted by her husband. Everything except the names of the dogs and the cats! B

I don't know about online Grampa, but or local one is available as a transription at our local library. Not very helpful, I know, if you don't live near the town in question. There are some names, mostly of landowners & employers & how many people they employ, how many houses on their land etc. It's less a census than the modern concept, more like the Doomsday book!

Jim If it even survived. Have you tried the relevant county record office. Margaret

No I do mean 1801. It is always possible that the enumerator may have made some comment in the margin.

Jim The 1801 was the first census taken, but was only a headcount. No names. The first useful one for genealogy is the 1841. Margaret

Hi....Do you mean the 1901 census? It`s parish registers for around the 1801 date, I`m afraid. My rellies came from around there too. Jay.
