Thanks Brian Good idea. I'll try that. Did you have results in the US? Elaine

Elaine - why don't you do a google search for the nearest library to where you think they were living in Texas and send them an e-mail asking for their help. They may have been listed in a directory or something. I have done this in the past and had results. You could also ask the library for the address of the local family history society. It's worth a try.

Thanks Brian. They were back in UK by 1894. So it is a short time frame there were in Texas about 10 years. Too early for US Birth Reg. No marriages or deaths so it is really difficult to get a fix. Thanks for your help Elaine

Checking the US 1900 census there was no Alfred or Amelia Dearden listed. There was a Margaret but she was born in Ireland in 1843. In the 1930 US census there were 3 Afred's but none born in 1857. There was no Amelia. Even using Soundex, there was nothing that matches different spellings.

I am trying to find traces of my great-grandparents period in Taylor, Williamson county Texas. Thhey have been found on the Ship Egypt out of Liverpool April 26 1884. They are not on the 1890 census. Their names are Dearden Alfred b Manchester 1857 Amelia nee Davies b Acton Burnell, Shropshire 1860, Margaret b 1887 in Texas Frank b ? 1889 in Texas John b ? 1891 in Texas Annie b 1894 in Salford, UK where they then stayed. They were believed to be on a cotton plantation. Any suggestions about finding information would be useful Elaine
