from what i know,by looking at old pics...north end...starts at west croydon staion,and runs south, ending at the george st traffic lights,its on the A23,the old london to brighton road. was focused on during the film..genevieve.. bryan.

There is very little left in Poplar Walk that anyone living a century ago would recognise. The church of St Michael and All Angels with St James is about the only building relatively unchanged. The shops on the north corner with North End may be as old, but I suspect they are early 20th century. The south side of Poplar Walk is now occupied by Marks & Spencers, the corner of the Whitgift Centre and a multi-storey carpark. B And yes, I'll ask if anyone knows any more.

North End is also the name of a road in Croydon town centre. It joins Poplar Walk. nell

North End House appears to have been on Poplar Walk, found out by doing an address search on 1901 census site :~)

Thank you Helen, North End House is the orignal name of the home, the Hiddenlives site says they moved FROM there in 1903, to Moreland Rd, it doesn't give an address for the original home, so I'm not sure if that means it was nearby or not. Regards Sam

I live round the corner from Morland Road so can wander up there this weekend if it helps is North End house supposed to be the place they moved to in 1903?

Thank you everyone, I already have the HiddenLives info, that's where I got the home's address, although now I've re-read it I'm confused :/ It shows a photo an the dates 1891-1965 but as someone mentioned, it says they moved to new premises in Moreland Rd in 1903. I have clicked on the "discover more about this image" link and this is a photograph from 1894 of the original home, so that's something, it is actually the home my GGrandfather lived in. He was 15 in 1901, so he would not have still been a resident when they moved in 1903. I just need to find out where the original building called "North End House" was in Croydon. Hi Brenda I'm the other side too as I'm in Wallington. Smiley I just looked at the site Nel gave and it states they didn't move to Morland road until 1903???? Also i just checked royal mail and presently there is a 24 and a 24A Morland which to me suggests, that it may now be flats???? And interestingly enough there is a Gordon Cresent right near where royal mail place 24 on the map!!!!!

I've been keeping quiet as I do live in Croydon, but the other side and I don't drive. If you get no better offers in the next week, I'll ask for help at the family history meeting in Croydon next Thursday. Somebody ought to know! B

just checked streetmap and Morland Road is still there, its the B243!!!!! No idea about the home sorry. Bryan from Clifrew lives in Croydon you could try and contact him, he maybe near to it, i have no idea which part of Croydon he lives in

live close by, don't know the actual place you mention, but most of my lot came from round here. try calling croydon library, they are normally very helpful unfortunatly their website is down due to planned maintance. I can visit and get info for you but you will need to check beforehand that they hold what you want, as i won' t have the time to search. They let youcopy things if from microfilm/fiche it cost me 5p for a copy of a maariage cert!!!!

Can't help with what is there now, but by googling I found this site which has a picture of the building. I expect you might get some info from www.croydononline.org/history/research.asp which has a section on researching local & family history. nell

Don't go to any trouble but, I would like to know if the building that was The Gordon home for boys, still stands. The address was 24 Morland Road, Croydon, London. (1891 - 1965) My GGrandfather was there in 1901, I'd love to see it. Thank you for any help. Regards, Sam
