Spelling of names is often different. It all depends on who was writing the information down, and in the 1800's particularly, a lot of people couldn't read or write so wouldn't know if some official had spelt their name correctly or not. Kath. x

Yes it is possible. Until the 20th century spelling was fairly fluid. It could also have been changed because it "looked" foreign. If you "Google" Mier surname it brings up a page on ancestry saying it is a variant of Myer. Janet

I have a marriage cert for my gran which states her name as Sarah Myers father Henry Myers she married in 1913 in Liverpool with a lot of help i have found what I think is her family but as Mier.Its not just the census although 1891 is mistranscribed its also brth entries on freebmd spelt as Mier.Is it possible for legal documents to differ?Arethey likely to be the same family.Would appreciate some advice before sending for any certs Regards Ann ps can't find anything on Sarah Myers with father Henry Myers
