Here is the answer from the on-line help page..its a bit fiddly I'm afraid Question I wanto to share my file with someone else but there is personal information on the Notes section that I don't want to include. How can I share my file but not the Notes in the file? Answer This will require using Family Tree Maker's ability to export and import GEDCOM files. Create a GEDCOM file from the file you want to share. (See the article on exporting to GEDCOM for more help or look in Family Tree Maker's built-in program help for GEDCOM.) By default a GEDCOM file will include all of the facts, information and Notes that are in your file. Next open the GEDCOM file that you just created back into Family Tree Maker creating a new file. During this process you will see a Facts to Import button that will allow you to decide what information you want to include in the file you are creating. In this case you would choose not to import the Notes field. (See the article on importing from GEDCOM for more help or look in Family Tree Maker's built-in program help for GEDCOM.) This new file will not include your Notes. You can now send the file you created, or create a GEDCOM from it to send. Peter

Im not sure about the ver 10 but on 2005 you can use the options to privatise information. Have you tried the online help program. I use it all the time!

Can anyone advise how I can upload a 'names only' gedcom file from Family Tree Maker ver 10. When I upload a gedcom file it also uploads all my additional notes which can then be viewed. thanks
