How definate can we be?????

Ive been able to trace back relatives to around 1803, but how sure can we be when doing this, especially when ordering birth certificates as they dont show the mother's maiden name until 1911. Juliana xx

Hi, The actual birth certs do have mothers' maiden names they just don't appear in the index. Gwynne

Yes, I think Juliana must mean birth certs with refs on 1837online. Before that date you have to look in the Parish Records and it may have the mothers name if you are lucky. However, if it doesnt and you know the family lived in the same parish for a long time, you could trace back through the parish records to find the marriage of the parents and so on.
