my father was fostered about 1898 by his fathers mother, is there any way i can find out about his mother as i only have her name and address where he was born in birkenhead cheshire,

If you know his birth name, date of birth and place of birth you could look up his birth on 1837 online or ancestry and then order his birth cert which should have his mothers details on. if this is what you already have then you could look for her birth entry and trace her in censuses Sarah

i have his birth cert has his mother as kathleen farrell and my father john farrell born in birkenhead shes not on electrol roll for the st where my father was born, his birth cert has john mckay otherwise farrell, i only have two photo,s of her and my father ,at a standstill with her

No votes for women before 1918. Her name sounds Irish - there is a KF aged 9 at a school in Chester in 1891 Farrell, Kathleen 9 Millingar, Ireland Chester Cheshire

thanks geof i have seen that one looks promising only 20 miles away from where im looking i have also seen kathleen farrell in 1881 age 21 from birkenhead but cannot trace her from there, the photo i have is in a uniform but do not know if its domestic or a nurse has new york broadway on back cannot tell her age and other photo with my dad and only two weeks ago it came to me that i was looking at my daughters image i was quite taken back
