THE FRUSTRATING THING IS............

The frustrating thing about hooking people up to genealogy is, you just can't quite access want you want. Sure the desire of people to make money from people is there........but they don't quite follow up with the accessabilty bit. All the info we are all trying to get is just hanging in the ether, but can we in this modern age grasp it ? Can we Bl...y H..l as like. It's all so frustrating. Millions need to be plowed in to giving people the access to information they have a right to. Stop giving us the Money Go Round Bit ! Just Sounding off.............Go easy on me ! Craig.

Craig Chill out! I know it's frustrating, but without the internet it would be even harder to find things out. I spent about a year in front of my computer doing genealogy before I braved the spools and reels of microfilm at the FRC, and then it took even longer to go to a county records office - but NOTHING can compare with handling a document which concerns a relative way back in 1817 and reading the words he spoke then. And it only cost the petrol and parking, which my husband paid. The frustration of not finding things on the net, or discovering the London Metropolitan Archives has a microfilm of my dad's school register which has every year except the ones relating to him, or going to a cemetery to find it so overgrown you can barely see the graves... is the flip side to all the wonderful discoveries that you can make. nell

The whole point about it is to provoke a response girls ! I've so far managed to get back to 1788 with the utmost certainty, but as you find out more the more nosy you get, and the point is; in our eagerness to glean more we should demand better access. 1837 offers us tantalising references to our heritage at a randomness that defies belief, and our government bodies spend billions compiling the info we freely give them. Surely if they provided better access to our archives we'd spend even more millions in pursuit of accurate information relevant to our to our family histories. Lets stop this chancing our arm at several near possible relations, and instead give us a surname search that offers real possiblities. Then perhaps we may purchase what is rightfully ours.....Knowledge of our Family Story. Chilled.........But with Flu !

Thanks Peter..........but it is late, and when you're sounding off, who cares whether or not it's "the" right board or not ? It's all dialogue with decent enough people anyways ! Craig

It'll be interesting to see how much more info we can get our hands on with the new 'Freedom of Information' act. I bet it's not a lot. But insurance companies, credit companies and other bloodsucking businesses will probably be able to get whatever they want on us!!! maggie

Happy New Year Maggie, It's obvious your wide awake here. I've been at this genealogy malarky for only two and a half years, and it sure is lovely. But can't quite understand why people don't demand a better service. After all, everything we need to know, with a few exceptions, is out there. It's just that people play games with us, bleeding us ever dry for more money, for info which we the people have firstly freely provided. I just can't understand why people get irate at someone asking for what should be a right. What about "Public Information", surely that's what most access to records is. We firstly provide them with the info, then they charge us for the priveledge to access it............ridiculous. Don't mind paying to access accurate info. But even 1837 at 10p a go gets frustrating when they break it down, and make it near impossible to find what you're looking for. And the Public are greatful..........my mind boggles at what's going down. I'll rest my case............. All the best, Craig in Burnley, Lancashire.

Craig I agree although at first I was grateful for any little bit of info, I hadn't thought about the hardship a lot of our Ancestors went through only for their descendants to be paying many websites for the privalege of being misinformed. Maggie Totally agree with you as well, well said. Pat x
