There are 16,643 Jabezs on Ancestry civil reg. As a measure the most popular male name is 6,245,536 matches for: William and the only entries for Jeuel are my grandfather's! nell

My children's great great grandfather was a Jabez.

Jabez was quite popular in the 19th century. It was my grandfather's middle name and I had an uncle Jabez who was always called "Uncle Jim" by us, though my dad occasionally called him "Jabe". It means either "bringer of sorrows" or "brought forth in sorrow" which is a strange choice to give your child! nell

Natalie No, not as far as I know, but I have an ancestor with this name and he is trascribed variously as Jabus, Jabuz, Jabes, Jabez and James!

Natalie My great grandad was Jabez Newey, any relation? Jabez is a name in its own right, its a biblical name. Just looked on the 1881, there are 5357 Jabez's so perhaps no connection LOL Margaret

ive found a family member on 1881 census with the name Jabez. is this short for anything or an abbreviation?
