Hi, I am searching for a marriage, however all the info I have is the mans surname, and the womans first name, I know what year the woman was born, and what area she lived (not a lot to go on, I know). can anyone give me any tips on where to go, I have been to lots of web sites but not had any luck. is this possible with such little info?, if it is possible where will i find this info. any help would be great. Regards Elaine

Elaine I fyou post what you know here, others can look. As you don't have much info, I think it would depend on the names. If you are looking for John Smith marrying a Mary for example, I think it would be impossible to know if you'd got the right one. I knew I had the right marriage cert for my Thomas Matthews marrying Emma because his father's name on the cert was Emmets which is v. unusual. Do you have something you could use to check if you find a likely cert? nell

Hi, The birth cert of one of the couple's children will give her maiden name which will make the search for the marriage a lot easier. Gwynne

Hi, well if you know about when she was born try looking from when she was 16, they could marry when they were 12 until the early 1900's, some did marry when they were 16 but most did seem to marry over 21. If its after 1910, you will have to look on 1837(.)com, Mid 1911 they started to put the partners maiden name, you would then have to look in that surname and see if the persons 1st name was the one you wanted, this could be a long drawn out job and cost a bit. On Freebmd (1837-1910) you can search his name and click on the page number, up will come 4 names on that page 2 male and 2 female = 2 marriage certificates. Early ones there were 4. The other way would be to get a birth certificate of one of their children, this will give you the mothers maiden name. After Mid 1911 they also started to put the mothers maiden name in the Birth indexing so if you know when one was about born you will be able to find the mothers surname this way. Which ever way you go good luck, you could try posting the names and about dates on here and we could perhaps help you. Irene
