Maureen Do you know roughly what dates your dad was in the royal signals? or any idea where he served with them? My dad served in Egypt and India with them from about 1946 to 1948 and I've got quite a lot of photos from then, including piccies of other people, so if the dates/places might match send me your dad's name I know its only a slim chance, but thought I'd offer anyway cheers Helen

Hi, You have to send proof that you are the next of kin. If you have an older brother or sister you have to have a letter from them giving consent. A friend of mine had a very difficult job getting army records because she was about 4th in the line of "succession". Gwynne

Maureen Don't let the next of kin part put you off applying for these records. I am not so sure about giving you the advice about being remarried. Be careful before you decide to tell the truth or not on this aspect. If you are truthful you can take it all the way. I decided to be up front about this aspect when I applied and told them that all the family were dead except my brother who was older than me. I had a fight on my hands but I insisted that as I was his daughter in this day and age I had as much right to the records as my older brother who had no family history interest and who had no children but I had children to pass the info on to. I was prepared to take the issue to my local MP as I felt strongly about my father's records. After an exchange of letters I was eventually granted the information I wanted. Good luck in whatever you decide to do but remember you will have to complete a form and sign it to say where you are in the next of kin stakes. Janet
