Parish Clerk registers

I am wanting to find out info on previous parish clerks in surrey. My family had 3 generations of parish clerks and i wondered if there is any way i can find out information on the dates they did this.

I'm sure they would be mentioned in the local archives to the area they were in. You could try looking for a website for the County Record Office which would give you an address, email or phone for you to contact them. Anne

Parish Clerks are often listed in trade directories and the like, although this will only tell you that they were in post at that time, not the 'from' and 'to' dates. If all else fails, one rather more laborious way to find when a parish clerk changed is to go through the register itself and try to spot when the handwriting changes. My gr-gr-grandfather was a parish clerk for 38 years until his death in 1913 - the writing after that date is significantly different. Simon
