Hi Brian Whether Daisy was the daughter of Mr Wilkinson, or some other person, she would be registered under her mother's then name. The only way the child of an unmarried woman (including a widow) would be registered with the father's name would be if the father accompanied the mother to the Registrar's. Clearly posthumous children would thus bear their father's name, but so would most children born to any later partner of the widow before any re-marriage. Regards Stan

Brian Rather than fighting teh GRo backlog, have a look on: http://www.teesvalley-indexes.*co.uk (remove *) I found this - which (given those extra initials) looks rather promising! Search births - results for DAISY ROBINSON 1900 Result Year Forename Initial Ref Number Click to contact 1 1900 DAISY MW S-W-029-0-0044 Stockton-on-Tees "Stockton-on-Tees" is a link to a page with the download-able application forms. Fees as for GRO - service, probably at least as good, even without the backlog. Christine

Brian You can write in paragraphs too! For some reason when you start a new thread, it doesn't keep your paragraphs, so unless its a very short message, you need to start the thread with "see below" and then add to your own thread, putting in your longer details - it should then retain the paragraphs. nell

Many thanks for your help, it's really appreciated. One other point - how do you all manage to write in paragraphs, I can't seem to do that ! ! !

Thanks Julie, I'm inclined to agree, but she was only Daisy M. Hopefully the marriage cert. will give a little more information, either that or compound the problem ! ! I hope to get the cert this afternoon.

The family lived in Thornaby (between Stockton on Tees and Middlesbrough). I know she couldn't be the dtr. of Robinson, but I'm only giving the information as I have it. I intend to get her marriage certificate this afternoon to see her age in 1922. I have a feeling her father wasn't James Wilkinson but someone else!!

Brian If Daisy was 8 months old at time of 1901 census then she would have been born Julyish 1900 (assuming census was in March). Mother would have been pregnant Octoberish 1899. However James Robinson (potential father) died in 1898. I think some of the census info might be incorrect. Either the age of Daisy (potentially 18 months old as opposed to 8 months) or her surname may be wrong - it may have been Wilkinson but the child would have been born out of wedlock as she did not marry James Wilkinson until Q4 1900 and therefore on the census return they indicate Robinson and stepdaughter. With kind regards Karen

Child born in June would be 8 months in Feb 1901, more likely to be July born if the 8 months is correct.

The 1901 census was taken on 31 March 1901. Assuming Daisy's age was correct, she would have been born around June 1900, so it is impossible that Mr Robinson (died 1898) could be the father. Perhaps Daisy was registered under her mother's maiden name? Alternatively, the age on the census could be wrong. Could it be 18 months (enumerator just heard "eight..") in which case she would have been born around Sep 1899 - ? I also think the M in her name could be Margaret after her mother. nell

Those dates don't quite add up do they? A child of 8 months in 1901 would have been born around July/Aug 1900. So.if the husband died in 1898??????????

My Great Grandmother, Margaret's first husband (James William Robinson) died in 1898. She re-married a James Wilkinson 4th qtr. of 1900. In the 1901 census Daisy M Robinson is shown as the stepdaughter of James Wilkinson and aged 8 months. In 1922 Daisy Mona Wilkinson married Rudolph Harvey (I know for a fact that this is the same Daisy). Can anyone offer any suggestions?
