knowing how long teh GRo is taking at the moment, I had a look on http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and found: Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1909 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference WHITE Lily HOWARTH Ernest Pendleton St Thomas Salford C38/7/72 The ref will be a link to a part-completed application form for eth cert. Same fees as GRO; service at least as good as GRO, even when GRO isn't overloaded! Christine PS - births not transcribed after 1907 yet.

If you are sure of the childrens year of birth then there are only two Lawrence Howarths born 1911 as follows:- March qtr. 1911, Warrington, 8c, page 244, Lawrence M. June qtr. 1911, Salford, 8d, page 114, Lawrence W. If you ordered the birth certificates one at a time giving the name of mother, Lily White, as a checking point, you could get the correct one and then you would at least have the full name of father to check for a marriage. Kath. x p.s. If Peter is right with the marriage, then the birth in the June qtr. in Salford would be the most likely one.

Is there a chance that Lily could have been married before and therefore would have a different surname at marriage? I think you need to get one of the children's birth certs so you can establish exactly what names you are looking for! Lou
