Have been searching for 2 years for a mariage for my g grandfather/mother William James Stubbington and Ada Wright (which I got from my grand fathers birth certificate, or so I thought, Now have received another of their childrens birth certificates and it says formerly Webb for Ada. Both of these names are very legible and couldnt have been mis transcribed. Do you experts think one was a maiden name and one was a married name. Ada on all census records is shown as being born in USA. Cannot still find a marriage for William James born 1852 in Upham. In 1871 he wasa soldier. Do you think it could be possible that they met and married in USA? According to census records all the children were born in the UK? Thanks for your advice in advance. Jayne

Hi Jayne, It's entirely possible they married abroad whilst he was serving his country. Have you checked 1837 online as they have an overseas section where I believe most army marriages are recorded (although I can't find the one I'm looking for) As for the difference in names I have no suggestions I'm afraid.
