Hi Muriel Don't know if this is your girl, but there is only one Mary Gilles (or Gillies, I've checked), born in Edinburgh to make her around 32 years in 1850. Mary Gilles b. 08.08.1817 @ St Cuthbert's Parish, Edinburgh to James Gilles and Rebeccah Drummond. FR4028 GROS data 685/02 0063 Too many Mary Browns to check out births. To confuse matters, there is a marraige of Mary Brown to a William Gillies 01.06.1827 at Ormiston Parish, East Lothian, but dates look very wrong. Hope this helps. Regards Ellen.

Muriel When was she 32? If you can give some ballpark dates eg; Grandfather birth, can have a look around for you. Regards Ellen.

On my grandfather's birth certificate (Joseph Gilbert Brown, born 1850 Westminster), his father is listed as John Brown & his mother is listed as Mary Brown Brown formerly Gilles(born in Edinburgh, aged 32). At first I tried to find Mary Gilles in Edinburgh - no luck. Then I thought perhaps she was born Brown, married a Gilles, divorced & married Brown again (I think unlikely), but whatever way I can find no record. Of course it doesn't help being such a common name. Has anyone any suggestions please?
