Hi, The only way to look at the 1901 census for nothing is in county record offices or The FRC in London. Gwynne

The only census that is free to view is the 1881 census from the family Search site www.familysearch.org The 1901 can be viewed for free but if you want to view a household you have to pay. Birth, marriage and death can be found at: www.freebmd.org Naomi x

You can find some transcriptions of some bits of some censuses by googling place names and dates. Info about census sites is available on the Getting Started section of the website - scroll down to find. It also explains about finding bmd cert indexes. nell

As Gwyneth says the only free way to look at the 1901 Census is at the County Record Offices, or the Family Record Centre in London, where incidentally all the census are free but as they are not indexed at the FRC, you will need either an address or a great deal of patience to scrawl through the fiches. Fine if it is a small hamlet or even a small village or town, but a momentous task if it is a sizeable Town or City and practically impossible if you trying to just look at London, Birmingham, Liverpool etc. Janet
