Hi everyone, Could use some tips on locating ancestry in the Baltic States, namely Latvia, Sweden. I am looking for anything prior to 1900. Can anyone help please?

Hi Laila I too have ancestors from Latvia. It seems to be difficult to find out anything unless they were Jewish, in which case there is the Jewishgen (? - not sure of exact name) site. Cyndi's List and the IGI on the Latter Day Saints' site are also quite useful - I think you can get all their website addresses on the links list on the Home Page of this site (scroll down to Genealogy Links). Try Googling also - some people have got results from that. Good Luck! Helen

Thanks for the reply Helen. One of the members helped me out with the LDS site last night...so I'm on my way. Unfortunately you're right...it is a lot harder for Latvian non-Jews but I will persevere! Good luck in your search too. Cheers Laila
