Well done Susan! Just to say that it took about 36 hrs to appear on world connect and haven't arrived on genscircle. Must be because of the holiday but have sent them an e-mail.

It worked, It worked, It worked.....and it wasn't even difficult. I was in a panic because I was worried about losing all of my hard work. I need not have worried at all. hmmmmmmm there is a lesson in that exercise for me. Thanks again people for your help <s>

Hi Sue, when you export you do not empty your tree. You only do this when you import otherwise you will get people appearing twice. So hit export button, this took me several attempts. Then find 'My documents' name the file such as jones4444, it may already do that for you. make a note of the name. When you get to gencircle or rootsweb (world connect) follow instructions to upload. Put named file in the box provided. Best of luck

To export my tree, what does it mean when it says the tree must be empty except for the owners name......on exporting, does it remove it from GR entirely? I want to export my tree to Gencircle, do I firstly have to save it in my "Word" programme and then export it from there......I have never done anything like this before and would appreciate some help.....Thankyou

Hi Jean I think you will find you are already on Gencircles but it takes 24 hours for them to smart match you.

Jeanie

Jeanie Report 1 Jan 2005 16:01

Yup, took a couple of minutes. I would go for it Jeanett. It may shame her into changing them. And at least yours will be the correct version. The roots web is already showing but the gencircle will take 24 hrs but at least I'm on.

Crikey Jeanie that was quick! Was it that easy? Might have to do it myself. There's a woman on both those sites with my family in her tree but she's got it all wrong and won't change it. Jeanette x

Thankyou, thankyou. On rootsweb and genscircle at long last. Having said that, I am going abroad for 3 mts on Wed. so may come back to loads of disgruntled e-mails from people thinking I am ignoring them!! I would so encourage people to look at 'world connect' (rootsweb). I have had some great finds there.

Thanks for that both of you, will give it a go but since I have already imported this tree to my PAF shouldnt that be a gedcom? Good suggestion re info though they have a bar on living people. I wonder if they will let me on!! Will keep you informed.

Jeanie and Heather Me thicko too! lol. But go to Import/Export tree on the left. Follow the instructions for exporting tree. That will now appear as a Gedcom wherever you saved it too ie. My Documents. Then go to Gencircles or Rootsweb and follow the instructions to Upload (Import) tree using the Gedcom you just downloaded. Remember all the info that you have on here will be displayed on the other sites, so if you have some stuff in your tree you would rather keep private, delete it from your GR tree before you Export your tree. I dont have PAF I have FT2005, but you need to go to file, export on my program and then make the file into a ged com. (I am a techno thicko so it took me a while, but I did it in the end!). You have a box come up which says "save as" and you click on ged.com and then you enter a name for ithe file with ged at the end. You can then upload it to another site. I dont know if yours works the same.

I thought my PAF5 was a gedcom but apparently not. Can anyone tell me how to export my GR tree straight to GenCircles and also Rootsweb? Many thanks Jeanie
