I have discovered that some of my ancestors were Coal Miners. How can I find out more about their employment? They were from Rugeley, Staffs. Thank you for your help Lucia :-) |

I have just started reading a book about mining in the 19C. It is mainly about the Silkstone area of Yorkshire but sets the scene about the conditions everywhere. It is called Children of the Dark, Life and Death underground in Victoria's England, by Alan Gallop. It particularly records the death of 26 children at the Husker mine in 1838. Anne |
