The other strange thing is that people write nudge. You only have to put in one letter. Then delete it. The message then goes to the top.

Certainly on the General topics board, I agree with Maz, the phantom nudger is a menace. But on this board, and Records Office, the hints & best websites lists are better if they don't contain pages of "nudge" messages, which should be deleted. Carole

I find it very irritating to open a message, thinking it has been updated, then find that there is no update. I wish GenesReunited would fix their software so that it operated like other systems and the latest message had been really updated. MB

Carol - nudges are used when people feel that a thread needs to be at the top of the message board as when the board is very busy messages quickly find themselves on page 3 or 4 or further back even. So people reply to a thread but instead of writing a message they put "nudge" in the text which then brings the thread back to the top of the message board. Very popular threads get nudged repeatedly which is a good thing but leaves loads of nudge messages to be read through. If after nudging you go back to your message "latest reply first" and then delete it the thread stays at the top of the message list (unless another message has been posted) but the thread doesn't then contain your "nudge message". Only the person posting a reply can delete it (I think), so unless they delete it the thread gets longer and longer even though no further information has been added. Hope that explains it.

Please please when you nudge a message up the board can you then go to your nudge message "latest message first" and delete the nudge message. It does the job of moving the message to the top of the board but we then don't have to trawl through loads of nudge messages especially on popular topics. Sorry but its one of my pet hates - hope I don't offend anyone. So will wish everyone a Really Happy Christmas and a Very Successful Genealogywise New Year.
