I have been trying to find my grandmother Sarah Myers. The only info i have is her marriage cert for 1913 which states her age as 20 so born 1893 her fathers name as Henry deceased.I presumed as she was married in liverpool that was where she was born .I found what I thought was her birth and sent for cert it was the wrong one Ihave searched ancestry bmd and 1901 online census and the only 8 year old sarah i can find is the daughter of robert henry and she was born in westmorland. do you think she is mine? thanks for taking the time to read this i would appreciate any any thoughts on it ann

I have had a quick look online at 1901. Don't trust ages given on marriage certs---they often lied. There is a Sarah Myers aged 6 b. Liverpool, but I could not find any adult male or female Myers with the same household ref. She was in the Everton area. It may be worthwhile to download a copy of the 1901 entry to find out who she was living with. Do you know her grandparents names? If she had been orphaned, could she be with them?

Ann, I am no expert, but I would go for the age being wrong rather than the father. Happy hunting!! Pat

Ann My opinion is that the age could easily be wrong (6 could be miswritten/read as 8) and Robert henry could easily be Henry - people sometimes used their middle name as a first name, etc. It is possible that Robert Henry was baptised Robert Henry but always called Henry (perhaps because his father was Robert) and that's what Sarah thought his name was, especially as he was dead at the time of the marriage and unable to correct her. But my opinion is not fact, and I am not sure how you can prove this unless you can get a birth cert for Sarah with Robert Henry as her father on it. Have you tried looking for Robert Henry Myers on the 1891 census? That might give a clue about where Sarah was born. nell

Just a quick comment about age. Am I right in thinking the only proof of her age is on her marriage cert? She could well have lied here, and been several years younger, or indeed older!
