My G G G Grandmother is down on the 1891 census as Mary....but then on the 1881 she is down as Alice with a daughter Mary Mary is 12 on the 1881 census, and the mother is Alice... Then on the 1891 census she is Mary. (Mary jr we believe emmigtrated to America so she is not on the 1891) and as a note, Her son Thomas' daughter was Alice (born 1895)

I've found that people change their names to suit their moods. Who knows why, but they do. Very annoying when you're trying to find them a century later lol

Thinking about it, I'll probably be down as different names in different census - are they still done now? I lived my first 16 years with one name, then decided to change it (long story). Now I use that one all the time lol
