Lodgers??Advice Please

Hi Would a lodger of been allowed to let relatives stay with them in their room in the house they were lodging in at all for a while, ie if their relative had nowehere to go or had just lost a loved one, as that might of been the case with an ancestor of mine.

I would think it was up to the land lord just. like today

Why do you ask? I have whole families recorded as "lodgers". I think it just meant that they shared a house!!
